Author’s Note
Lockdown is set in post-Promises Nyeusigrube, which is to say it takes place in the same world as my published Den of Shadows books. While it occurs after the events of Promises to Keep, and events of that book do in some ways trigger the events of this book, Lockdown is intended to be stand-alone. You do not need to have read any or all of the Den of Shadows books to understand and enjoy this one.
Technically, this book could be considered spoilers for the end of Promises to Keep, but the references are vague enough and the POV characters ignorant enough about the events they are referring to that I am not sure it gives anything substantive away beyond “they did something to fix the problem.”
** Note: The title Lockdown is tentative, and was given to this novel before 2020. It is not intended to be a reference to Covid lockdowns. As in my other works, I’ve chosen to pretend Covid doesn’t exist in Nyeusigrube, which is why my characters aren’t masking, etc. I take the virus very seriously in real life, but prefer not to deal with it in my fiction.
Content Warnings
Lockdown has some dark moments to it, and moments where I feel it leans more toward horror than my usual Nyeusigrube work. If there are specific topics that concern you, or you would like to clarify how the topics listed below are handled on-page, please reach out to me (or any of my beta readers) directly.
Specifically, this novel does include the following:
- Moments of visceral gore.
- Aspects of the Rose Ward are similar to locked psychiatric facilities.
- Death of named (not POV) characters
- Guilt
- Self-harm & Suicide
- Discussion of a character magically responsible for the deaths of family members
- (Beta readers – anything you think I should add?)
